Airdrie Golf Club has a healthy Junior Section and has activities for boys and girls of all ages and abilities. The club has established an Academy Course (Blue Tees) using short tees and existing greens. This Course has been rated for handicap purposes by Scottish Golf and is a great introduction to the game and allows juniors to achieve their first handicap on a shorter course.
Beginners

Beginners can take part in the Scottish Junior Flag Championship. This event provides young golfers with fantastic playing oportunities in the early stages of their development. Staged in partnership with Scottish Golf, the Paul Lawrie Foundation and the Stephen Gallagher Foundation. The club winners enter a series of regional events open to beginner level juniors, aged 12 years and under with no handicap. The aim of the flag competition is to introduce young players to competitive golf in a fun and relaxed environment. Check out the video from the Scottish Golf National Final at Gleneagles in 2021 where you will see some glimpses of the Airdrie qualifiers.

Golf Sixes League

The next stage for juniors is the Golf Sixes League. The Golf Sixes League is a fun, team-based competition, designed to give young golfers an early experience of playing for their club and giving them the buzz to want to play more.
The event gives our junior members the chance to compete against other local clubs in regional leagues through a shortened format and simple scoring system. With merchandise provided to all players, it is a really exciting competition to take part in.
The Leagues encourage young golfers to play more competitive golf, obtain a handicap and make progress onto the club’s junior team. The Airdrie Golf Sixes team won the Lanarkshire League in 2021 and 2022

Junior Skills Challenge

The Club arranges the Scottish Golf’s Junior Skills Challenge which is an exciting event open to junior golfers across the country. Designed to develop the key skills of putting, chipping and driving,

The competition is split into the following four age categories with a Boys’ and Girls’ section in each:

Participants aged 6 and under
Participants aged 7 – 9
Participants aged 10 – 12
Participants aged 13 - 15

The Junior Skills Challenge provides players with the chance to win a place at the National Finals during the AIG Women’s Open. For more details of the Junior Skills Challenge see the video below.

Junior Medals

Once Juniors have achieved a handicap they can take part in Junior medals which take place on a Thursday during the School holidays and every Sunday outwith the school holidays.
The medals are graded by handicap and juniors progress from Blue tees to red, yellow and white tees as their handicap reduces.

Junior Team Matches

Airdrie Golf Club enters a team in the Lanarkshire Junior Leagues. The matches consist of three scratch games and three handicap games. The matches are aimed at the lowest handicap players in the Junior Section.

Junior Championship

The biggest day in the Junior Calendar is the Junior Championship.

The main event is the Junior Championship which is a scratch competition from the white tees.

Other events also take place on this day including the Girls Championship, a Red Tee competition and a nine hole Academy Course competition .

Congratulations to Calum Watson who defeated Ellie McManus to lift the Logan Trophy, our junior match play championship🏆🏆 In a nail biting final, the match finished all square after 18 holes, with Calum clinching the title when he birdied the first extra hole while Ellie’s birdie attempt narrowly slipped past. Both players have had superb seasons and this was a fitting way to round things off .
